Stake Review for Canadian Players
Stake sponsors a Formula 1 team, a Premier League club and half the streamers on Kick, and it is described as the biggest crypto casino on earth. None of that reaches Ontario, where the site has been dark since 2023. Here is what the brand actually delivers for the Canadians who can use it.

Where does Stake work in Canada?
Everywhere except Ontario. Stake's terms name Ontario as the only restricted Canadian jurisdiction, and the site has geo-blocked Ontario IP addresses since April 9, 2023, because it holds no AGCO registration or iGaming Ontario agreement. The other nine provinces and three territories can sign up at 19+, or 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
Stake's restricted-jurisdictions clause (reported as section 14.3 of its terms; the official page blocks automated readers, so we verified it through sources quoting the text) lists the United States, Australia and a set of European countries alongside Ontario. No other Canadian province or territory appears.
Ontario is different because since April 2022 it runs its own regulated market: operators need registration with the AGCO plus an iGaming Ontario operating agreement, and a Curacao licence counts for nothing there. Stake holds neither as of July 2026, so it geo-blocks the province instead. Circumventing the block with a VPN breaches Stake's terms and puts winnings at confiscation risk. The full province-by-province picture is in our dedicated guide: is Stake legal in Canada?
Then there is stake.ca, a coming-soon placeholder since 2023. Affiliate sites keep announcing that "Stake launches in Ontario in 2026", sometimes quoting a general manager reportedly working with the regulator, but no AGCO listing, iGO agreement or Stake press release confirms any of it. Every launch date you read is affiliate speculation until the regulator's public register says otherwise.
| Region | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ontario | Blocked | Named in the restricted clause; geo-block live since April 9, 2023; no AGCO/iGO registration |
| All other provinces & territories | Accepted | 19+ (18+ in AB, MB, QC); offshore access under the Curacao licence |
| stake.ca | Placeholder | "Coming soon" since 2023; no confirmed launch, no regulatory approval on record |
How does a Canadian deposit and withdraw at Stake?
Two routes in: send crypto from a Canadian exchange funded by Interac e-Transfer, or buy coins inside Stake through MoonPay with a card. No platform fees, no minimum or maximum deposit, no withdrawal cap. Withdrawals process immediately once your account has passed the mandatory identity verification.
The exchange route is the one I can vouch for from years of doing it: an e-Transfer to Shakepay or Bitbuy clears in minutes, and from there USDT on Tron or Solana reaches Stake in seconds for pennies. The in-app MoonPay on-ramp is confirmed in Stake's own help pages and takes Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay, at fee rates meaningfully worse than the exchange route. Some 2026 reviews claim Stake takes CAD directly via Interac in certain regions; no official Stake page confirms that, so treat it as unconfirmed. Our Interac funding guide walks the reliable path.
Withdrawal economics are Stake's strongest single feature. The platform adds no fee of its own, sets no maximum, and states that processing is immediate, with the blockchain determining the rest. Minimums float per coin.
| Coin | Minimum withdrawal | Network fee (dynamic) |
|---|---|---|
| BTC | 0.00002504 | 0.00001571 |
| ETH | 0.0006261 | varies |
| LTC | 0.01857 | varies |
| USDT (ERC-20) | 2.50 | 1.00 |
| DOGE | 5.499 | varies |
| TRX | 7.824 | varies |
Those figures come from a July 2026 third-party audit and shift with network conditions, so read them as order-of-magnitude.
What does Stake's KYC actually require?
More than its no-KYC reputation suggests. Verification levels 1 and 2, covering name, date of birth, address and government ID, are mandatory before any withdrawal. Amounts over $10,000 force full checks, and user reports put review times at 24 to 72 hours, sometimes a week, with withdrawals frozen for the duration.
The first two levels are the price of admission for cashing out anything; level 3 unlocks higher limits, and level 4 source-of-funds requests arrive case by case when the numbers get large. The terms also let Stake run extra checks on any withdrawal at its discretion.
| Level | What you submit | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Name, date of birth, residential address | Basic account standing |
| 2 | Government ID (passport, licence, ID card) + selfie | Withdrawals become possible |
| 3 | Proof of address under 6 months old | Higher deposit and withdrawal limits |
| 4 | Source-of-funds documents | Case-by-case; large or flagged accounts |
The complaint record shows where this bites. AskGamblers complaints describe players stuck in "forever verification", including an account frozen with roughly $6,000 locked despite extensive documents submitted. casino.guru's complaint themes run the same direction. Most players clear KYC in a day or three; the tail risk is real, which is why anyone planning large withdrawals should verify before winning, not after. Players who want document-free play should read our no-KYC guide, because Stake is not that.
Is there a Stake welcome bonus for Canadians?
No standard one. Stake runs no public deposit match; the 200% up to $3,000 offers you see advertised come through affiliate promo codes and carry 40x playthrough. The house model is ongoing value instead: rakeback through the VIP Club, weekly and monthly bonuses, loss-back, and recurring small bonus drops.
This is the most misunderstood thing about Stake in Canada. The code offers are real (deposit $10 or more, bonus credited within 24 hours after review, qualifying deposits capped at $1,500), but 40x playthrough on a 200% match is a grind most players never finish. I would rather see an honest zero than a decorated 40x.
The ongoing model suits regulars better. Rakeback returns a slice of every wager through the VIP Club (one major review pegs it at 5%), tiers add level-up and reload bonuses, loss-back arrives weekly and monthly, and small "bonus drop" codes circulate on Stake's socials. If a clearable welcome offer is the priority, Bitsler's progressive bonus, which releases funds with no wagering at all, or the offers in our bonus guide serve that goal far better.
How fast does Stake pay out, and what are the limits?
Once verified, effectively as fast as the blockchain you pick. Stake processes withdrawals immediately, charges no platform fee and imposes no maximum, so a USDT-on-Tron cashout lands in minutes whether it is $50 or $50,000. The asterisk: KYC reviews freeze withdrawals entirely, for days in the worst reported cases.
Trustpilot reviewers repeatedly describe instant payouts, and the structure backs them up: no cap means no splitting a big win into months of installments, a genuine differentiator against casinos with weekly limits. Fast chains settle in seconds to minutes; Bitcoin takes ten minutes to an hour.
If uncapped, instantly processed withdrawals are what you care about most, that is Stake's honest edge: see Stake's cashier for yourself, but check whether your province is in play before you deposit a dollar.
What games and sports can Canadians bet on at Stake?
3,000+ casino games from Evolution, Pragmatic Play, Hacksaw and Play'n GO, headlined by 31 exclusive Stake Originals (Mines, Plinko, Crash, Dice) that are provably fair. The sportsbook covers 30+ sports with real Canadian depth: NHL markets at roughly 6% margins and CFL markets near 5.7%.
The Originals matter more than the count. They are the games Stake built its brand on, they run at published house edges, and every result can be verified against the seed. Third-party slots and live tables rely on provider RNG audits, the industry norm. The library is smaller than the 6,000-game monsters on our list; past the first thousand slots, catalogue size is marketing.
For sports, margins around 6% will not beat a sharp book, but they are competitive for a crypto sportsbook, and live in-play betting runs across the schedule. A French interface rounds out the fit for Quebec players.
Can you trust Stake?
Mostly, with documented exceptions. Medium Rare N.V. has run Stake since 2017 under founders Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani, holds Curacao licence OGL/2024/1451/0918 plus real licences in the UK, Italy, Brazil and Denmark, and clears casino.guru at 7.9. The complaint tail and an April 2026 lawsuit deserve eyes-open reading.
Stake's operator is Medium Rare N.V., Curacao company 145353, and the group is licensed in markets where regulators actually audit: the United Kingdom (2021), Italy (2024), Brazil (2025), Denmark (2025) and others, per Wikipedia's sourced history. Canadians still play under the Curacao licence, with weaker recourse, but a group that passes UK and Danish licensing is structurally different from a one-licence Curacao shop.
| Trust signal | Reading | Context |
|---|---|---|
| casino.guru Safety Index | 7.9 (Above average) | No unfair terms found; complaint themes are verification freezes and confiscations |
| Trustpilot | 3.9 / 5, "Great" | ~17,000 reviews; 65% five-star, but 21% one-star |
| Licensing | Curacao OGL/2024/1451/0918 | Plus issued licences in UK, Italy, Brazil, Denmark and other regulated markets |
| Legal | April 2026 US lawsuits | NY and FL suits allege gambling ads reached minors; allegations, not findings |
The Trustpilot spread is the honest picture: 17,000 reviews is a sample no other crypto casino approaches, and the 21% one-star block is dominated by verification and freeze stories. The April 2026 lawsuits filed in New York and Florida allege Stake's marketing reached minors; those are plaintiff allegations working through US courts, not judgments, and I report them as exactly that.
Two Canadian-relevant strengths deserve the last word. Support runs 24/7 live chat (AI triage first, then humans), with email answered in 2 to 24 hours. And the responsible-gambling toolkit is the best in this corner of the market: Stake Smart offers deposit, loss and bet limits with a 24-hour cooling-off on increases, plus self-exclusion from 6 months to indefinite. Against the self-exclusion-only setups at older crypto sites, it is not close.
How are Stake wins taxed in Canada?
Recreational wins are not taxed in Canada. What the CRA does tax is the crypto itself: selling, swapping or spending coins you won is a disposition, and any gain since the day you won them is reportable. A big win held through a rally creates a real tax bill.
Stake's no-cap withdrawals make this more relevant, because five-figure cashouts are exactly the transactions worth documenting. Screenshot the coin's CAD value the day it lands. The rest, including professional-gambler status, is in our crypto gambling tax guide.
What are Stake's pros and cons for Canadians?
The case for Stake is scale you can feel: instant uncapped withdrawals, provably fair originals, a real sportsbook and licences in markets that audit. The case against is the Ontario blackout, mandatory KYC before any withdrawal with documented freezes, and the absence of any welcome bonus worth the name.
- No withdrawal caps, no platform fees, immediate processing
- 31 provably fair Originals plus 3,000+ games
- NHL and CFL markets at competitive margins
- Real licences beyond Curacao: UK, Italy, Brazil, Denmark
- Best-in-class limit tools via Stake Smart; French interface
- Geo-blocked in Ontario since 2023, no confirmed return date
- KYC mandatory before withdrawal; freeze cases include a ~$6,000 lock
- No standard welcome bonus; code offers carry 40x
- 21% one-star share on Trustpilot
- April 2026 US lawsuits over ads allegedly reaching minors
So, should Canadians outside Ontario play at Stake?
If you value payout mechanics over bonus decoration, yes. Stake takes our top marks for banking and payouts, scores well on trust despite the complaint tail, and loses ground only on the empty welcome offer and the Ontario blackout. Verify your identity on day one, before any win makes it urgent.
Stake is the rare crypto casino where the famous brand and the underlying product roughly match. It is not the value play; bonus hunters do better at Bitsler, and sports-first players should also price out Cloudbet before committing. Where all of them rank side by side lives on our crypto casino canada comparison.
Terms change; figures on this page were last re-checked July 2026.
You must be 19+ in most provinces, 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, and Stake does not serve Ontario at all. It operates offshore, outside every provincial consumer-protection regime; if a dispute goes wrong, no Canadian regulator will step in. Use the Stake Smart limits before you need them. Help and tools: responsible gambling.
Stake questions Canadians actually ask
Is Stake legal in Ontario?
No. Ontario is the only Canadian jurisdiction named in Stake's restricted clause, geo-blocked since April 9, 2023, because Stake holds no AGCO registration or iGaming Ontario agreement. A VPN workaround breaches the terms and risks confiscated funds. Full details: is Stake legal in Canada?
When will stake.ca launch?
Nobody outside Stake knows. The domain has shown a coming-soon placeholder since 2023, every "launching in 2026" date traces back to affiliate sites, and as of July 2026 there is no AGCO registration or iGO agreement on record.
Does Stake accept Interac e-Transfer?
Not confirmed. Some 2026 third-party reviews claim CAD deposits via Interac work in certain regions, but no official Stake page verifies it. The confirmed routes are crypto from an exchange or buying in-app through MoonPay.
Can I withdraw from Stake without KYC?
No. Verification levels 1 and 2 (name, date of birth, address, government ID, selfie) are required before any withdrawal, and amounts over $10,000 trigger deeper checks. Typical reviews take 24 to 72 hours.
Who owns Stake?
Medium Rare N.V., a Curacao company founded by Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani, who launched Stake in 2017 out of their games studio Easygo. The group also holds licences in the UK, Italy, Brazil and Denmark.
